What to Wear for Court?

What are the Courtroom Conduct Rules in Hall County?

When attending court for DUI or another traffic charge in Hall County, it is imperative that you dress and act appropriately. Judges and court staff are very strict about attire and do not look fondly on casual clothing. While your clothes do not have to be fancy, it goes a long way with the judge if they can tell you put effort into looking your best. Your clothing and behavior will send a message to the judge: make sure it is the right message.

Hall County Court Conduct Rules

If you are appearing in or attending court proceedings you should dress appropriately and in a manner that shows respect for the court system, the judge, and other citizens around you.

Here are some things you should NOT wear:

  • Hats or other head coverings inside the courtroom (except those worn for religious or medical purposes)
  • Sunglasses
  • T-shirts depicting violence, sexual acts, profanity, or illegal drugs
  • Tube or halter tops/plunging necklines/shirts that expose the midriff
  • See-through tops or bottoms
  • Ripped or torn jeans
  • Miniskirts or high cut shorts
  • Baggy pants that fall below the waist or expose undergarments
  • Muscle shirts (usually worn as undergarments)

If you are not dressed properly, you may be asked to leave the court and return at a later date. This will delay your hearing and require you to appear in court more than once.

Our Hall County DUI Lawyers recommend that men should either wear a suit with a tie, sport coat, or a long sleeve button down shirt with slacks. Men should wear a belt. Women should wear a conservative business suit or dress or business casual slacks with a conservative top. Accessories should be kept to a minimum and clothes should not be too tight.
